Description
The Old Cottage is a house dating from the mid to late 17th century, with an addition from the 18th century. It features rendered stone rubble walls and a thatched roof that is gabled on the left side and hipped on the right. There is a central axial brick stack. The original layout consisted of a two-room plan with a baffle entry in front of the axial stack, which served back-to-back fireplaces. An 18th-century wing has been added to the rear of the right-hand room. The exterior is two storeys high, with a regular two-window front that includes early 20th-century three-light casements. The central entrance is a 19th-century plank and part-glazed door, sheltered by a thatched door hood. Although the interior was not accessible during the survey, it is noted to contain 18th-century two-panel doors and likely has exposed ceiling beams.
