Description

Hollytree Cottage, originally a farmhouse, is now a house located in Buckland Laverton. It dates from the 17th and 18th centuries and was altered in the late 20th century. The building features coursed, roughly squared stone, with the right side of the main wing displaying alternating thick and thin courses. The garden wall is made of ashlar stone and the roof is covered with Welsh slate.

The cottage has a two-window front and a cross wing that is one room deep and one and a half storeys high. Facing the road, there is a three-light mullioned window with a hoodmould and an iron opening light, alongside a boarded door framed with a moulded arris, a flat Tudor arch, and a deep stone lintel with a hoodmould. To the right, there is a four-light window with a hoodmould. The stonework changes just before the corner, where the cross wing projects, featuring a three-light casement with an iron opening light. Above the main wing, there are two gabled dormers with three-light casements, and the cross wing has a two-light 20th-century metal window with a parapet gable above.

Chimneys are located on the left gable of the main block and to the right of the front door; both were rebuilt in the late 20th century using artificial stone. There is also a stump of a chimney on the ridge of the cross wing and from the eaves on the right return. A lower wing on the left and an extension behind the cross wing are not of special interest. The garden wall is positioned forward at the left end of the house, extending to a gate opposite the door and then to the corner of the cross wing, topped with stone coping.
