Description
The Williams monument is a lofty chest tomb located approximately 3.5 meters west of the north-west corner of the north porch of the Abbey in Tewkesbury. It dates from the early to mid 19th century and is made of sandstone. The inscriptions on the tomb are badly worn but include the name "WILLIAMS" and the year "1844," with "THOMAS HOLDEN" also partially visible. The tomb features a flat ledger with moulded edges, raised panels on the long sides that have inset quadrant corners and rosettes, and inset end panels. It stands on a moulded base and platform, which was formerly surrounded by a railing, and is set high with orthostat slab retainers on the south side.
