Description

The terrace wall and gate, located about 60 meters south of Highnam Court, was built in the mid-19th century for T. Gambier-Parry. It features English garden wall bond brickwork with ashlar dressings and a balustrade that is probably made of terracotta. The wall includes central gates and steps, with projecting quadrants at each end. The quadrants are constructed of brick with plain stone caps, and the outer end pier has a cast-iron urn while the inner pier supports a statue. The straight wall is divided into three sections, with the outer 'balustrade' consisting of semi-circular sections in three courses, and the center section made of brick with plain stone coping. There is a small urn on the center of each side and a wide terracotta urn on the piers beside the gate. The iron gates feature fixed side panels, dog bars, and spear heads on the main bars. In front, there are two stone steps with nosings leading down to the field, with a ha-ha on either side. This structure forms part of the axial view from the house.
