Description

The Old Forge is a detached cottage dating back to the 17th century, with later additions. It is constructed with square-panelled timber framing and rendered infill, alongside random rubble limestone for the extensions. The roof is thatched, and a projecting stack features a brick shaft. Later extensions have red tile roofs and rendered stacks.

The cottage has a rectangular main body with a lean-to to the right of an open-sided entrance porch, and further extensions to the left gable end. A former forge projects forward on the left-hand side. The main body is one-and-a-half storeys high. A two-light eyebrow dormer with leaded panes sits over the porch, which has a hipped, thatched roof supported by turned posts. A three-light casement window with leaded panes is located at the rear of the porch. A 20th-century plank door with fillets is in the return of the lean-to. Another three-light casement with leaded panes is located at the front of the lean-to. A large projecting stack is at the left gable end. The right gable end has a half-hipped roof. Single-storey extensions are located to the left. The former forge is characterised by 20th-century square-panelled timber framing and weatherboarded cladding to the gable facing the road, along with a lateral stack. The interior was not inspected.
