Description
The power loom shed at Stanley Mills, built in 1854 for S.S. Marling, is a former industrial building located to the northwest of the main building. It features ashlar limestone piers with brick infill and has a flat roof that is not visible for inspection. The southern part of the structure is made of coursed rubble with blue brick arches. The shed is four storeys high and adjoins the west end of the main building.
The side of the shed has ten bays separated by stone piers. The windows are of the weaver's type, with tall vertical panes; the top and bottom floors have square-headed windows, while the middle two floors feature segmental-arched windows. On the east side, there is a three-window arrangement with stone construction, blue brick segmental-arched heads, and small-paned casements. The main part of the building stands on a bridge supported by four keyed stone arches that span the River Frome.
Originally, the north end had a parapet gable, which was removed during a 20th-century alteration that replaced it with a flat roof. The interior has not been inspected. This shed was constructed to accommodate the first power weaving looms at the mill.
