Description

Mill House is a detached mill owner's house, likely built in the early 18th century and substantially refaced around 1800. The front facade is brick, painted, and sits upon a slag and ashlar plinth, with stone eaves, string courses, and raised stone quoins that alternate in pattern – two short and one long. The roof is covered with concrete tiles and features brick end stacks and raised coped verges with kneelers to the front range. The house has a double range layout, spanning two storeys and an attic, with a single-storey rear wing. The front features two 12-pane sash windows on each floor, each with a raised stone quoin and lintel. Two gabled dormers with twin casements are visible in the attic. The right-hand return houses the entrance, which is framed by a chamfered brick surround with a stone keystone, and is sheltered by a 19th-century gabled porch hood. The rear wing to the right has a vertical line of 12-pane flush sash windows on each floor, framed by voussoirs and a stone keystone. One window on the ground floor is similar but features a brick flat arch instead.
