Description

Wood Farmhouse was built in the 1840s for Edward Leigh, the builder of Woodchester Park. It is a good example of Cotswold style architecture. The two-story house is irregular in appearance and constructed of rubble with a tile roof, coped ridges, and saddlestones. It features three ridge chimneys with diagonal shafts, three attic gables, and one projecting gable with a quatrefoil vent. The windows are casement windows with two and three lights, rebated mullions, and drips. The ground floor has multi-light windows, with a continuous drip extending over the ground floor and stopping just short of the left-hand window with diagonal stops. A lean-to porch obscures a heavily moulded Tudor arch doorway, with a drip raised over the door and adjacent window containing patterned tracery. A small two-light mullion window sits above the porch. Two wings extend to the rear of the house, originally linked by a colonnade, which has now been filled in. The interior includes "smart" features, such as chamfered corners. The farmhouse is notable as an early example of Cotswold style revival, exhibiting unusual features like the rear colonnade loggia.
