Description
This group of three monuments is located in the churchyard approximately 15 meters north of the vestry of the Church of St John the Baptist in Randwick Village. Dating from the early 18th century to the early 19th century, the group includes two limestone chest tombs and one sandstone pedestal tomb with an iron-railed enclosure.
The two chest tombs feature lyre ends. One has carved surrounds for recessed side inscription panels and is inscribed to William Hopton, who died in the 17th century. The other chest tomb displays impressive end carvings, with an open book on the west end and three death's heads within a shell on the east end, along with carved side panels flanked by putti; however, the inscriptions are illegible.
The square pedestal tomb has attached reeded corner columns and a thin reeded top with an urn finial, inscribed to Samuel Copner, who died in 1837. The tomb is surrounded by spear-topped railings, with corner principals also topped with urn finials.
