Description
The Merrett monument is a pedestal tomb located in the churchyard, approximately 1 metre north of the nave of the Church of St John the Baptist. It dates from 1815 and is made of sandstone. The tomb has a square shape with a moulded frieze and raised oval inscription panels on the east and west sides. A relief of the Tree of Life is featured on the north side, while an urn is positioned on the south side. The top of the monument is moulded with weathered coping, and it has a moulded plinth. The inscription commemorates William Merrett, who died in 1815.
