Description

Painswick Mill Cottage is a detached house dating from the late 18th or early 19th century. It is located on the south side of King’s Mill Lane in Painswick, opposite the mill. The front facade is limestone ashlar, while the remaining fronts are built of coursed and squared rubble. The roof is covered in stone slates. The house is two storeys and has an attic, with three windows. It features 12-pane sash windows, with slightly over-square panes, and a 20th-century gabled porch sheltering the central doorway. A two-light gabled dormer window is present on the back, over a two-light central casement window; a single-storey lean-to with a stone slate roof is also on the rear. A small stack is located on the right gable, and a larger external stack is on the left gable. The cottage is similar in design to Spring Cottage (listed separately) and was likely built to house staff working at the nearby mill.
