Description
Knapp Cottage is a house located alongside the road in Painswick, dating from the 17th century with modifications made in the 20th century. It is constructed from large squared and coursed limestone blocks and features a stone slate roof. The cottage has a cross-gabled design with a lower wing added to the left, and a 20th-century half-cylindrical stair turret at the back, likely designed by Detmar Blow, which was part of the alterations made when the adjacent Knap Orchard House was built in 1926.
The building has two storeys and an attic, with the gable facing the street displaying 2-light recessed chamfered casements at three levels, all under stopped hoods. To the right, there are two single-light windows, also with hoods. On the left side, the lower unit includes a door arrangement of 1:3: door: 2-light under a stepped hood mould, with a plank door. The right gabled return, which faces the valley, features 2 over 3 over 3-light recessed chamfered mullioned casements with hoods. The garden front has a 2-light lancet window above 2 over 3-light casements in the gable, with a quadrant connection to the later house. The interior has not been inspected.
