Description
The Haynes monument is a headstone located in the churchyard, about 10 meters west of the nave of the Church of St. Lawrence. It commemorates Giles Haynes, who died in 1674. The stone features rounded shoulders with an indent and a slightly raised center. There are scrolls on each side of the head, with leaf terminations, and a decorative feature in the center. Below this, there is a slightly recessed rectangular panel with well-cut lettering in a mix of upper and lower case. Giles Haynes is recorded as a husbandman. This is the earliest surviving headstone in the churchyard and is in good condition.
