Description
This is a barn built in 1809 for H H D, as indicated by the datestone. It features English garden wall bond brickwork and a stone plinth, with a roof covered in double Roman tiles. The barn has three bays and the facade facing the yard includes double boarded doors leading to the threshing floor, positioned slightly above the yard. The left door is divided into two halves and is topped by a cambered brick arch, supported by a heavy timber frame. On either side of this entrance are large openings, also with cambered brick arches, which are infilled with brick grilles. The eaves are decorated with dentils. The right side of the barn has two similar openings filled with brick grilles, and there is a boarded door leading to a pitch hole in the gable, also topped by a cambered brick arch. Above this, in the apex, is an oval stone owlhole. A datestone resembling the owlhole is located at the opposite end of the barn. Inside, there are slight internal buttresses on either side of the doors, and a low brick sill wall on the left side of the threshing floor with a timber top; the wall on the right has been removed. The roof consists of five bays with king post trusses, tapered principals, two pairs of purlins, and a plank ridge. This barn forms a group with the associated house.
