Description

The Hopkins Monument is a chest tomb located about 6 meters north of the Holbrow Monument in the churchyard of the Church of St. John the Baptist. It commemorates Jeremiah Hopkins, who died in 1766. The tomb is made of limestone and features a flat top, a moulded plinth, and capping, with quarter baluster corners. The end panels are adorned with cherubs in high relief. The sides of the tomb display egg and dart moulding in the recessed center panel and in reverse on the fielded flanking panels. At the time of the survey in March 1986, the monument was partially overgrown.
