Description
The houses at 27 and 31 Coxwell Street date from the mid-17th century, with alterations in the 20th century. They are built of coursed limestone rubble with an artificial slate roof, and a brick stack on the left end. The front has two gables and a through-passage plan, with two storeys, an attic, and a three-window front. The first floor has three modern three-light timber casement windows, each with a timber lintel. The gables contain two modern two-light timber casement windows, one of which is in a blocked hoist opening. The ground floor has three modern three-light timber casement windows, and two doors in the centre. The left door, belonging to number 27, is a glazed door with nine panes; the right door, for number 31, is a four-panel door. Rear wings display fragments of timber framing. Number 31 contains a timber beam with a broad chamfer and a late 18th-century fireplace in the ground floor front room, though the house underwent considerable alterations in 1989.
