Description

No. 2 Silver Street is a building that was originally a hotel and is now used as offices. It dates from the early to mid-18th century, with later alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The structure is built from coursed squared limestone, showing some traces of render, particularly on the second floor, and features a Welsh slate roof with a stone axial stack located at the rear left.

The building has three storeys and a five-window range. On the first floor, there are five 19th-century sash windows with two panes each, set in flat rendered surrounds with projecting cills. The second floor features five two-light timber casements in plain reveals. The ground floor has an early 20th-century shopfront, which includes two plate glass windows flanking a glazed door, and a six-panel door with a single-pane overlight to the left. This is all framed by a surround with flat pilaster strips, three heavy console brackets, a frieze, and a moulded cornice. There is a moulded string course above the first floor, and a shallow second floor, likely added in the 19th century, has a brick dentil eaves cornice.

Inside, the building contains an early 19th-century fireplace and a chamfered beam with a run-out stop and a nick on the left side of the first floor. A similar beam without a fireplace is found on the right side of the first floor. Additionally, there is a rough chamfered beam with a step-stop, possibly reused, located at the rear of the ground floor, and a fireplace opening with a chamfered lintel in the entrance hall.
