Description

This former manor house dates from the early to mid-17th century, with later alterations in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It is constructed of roughly squared limestone and ashlar, with a stone slate roof and stone stacks. The building has a rectangular plan, based around an early core with extensions added to all sides except the north. The original core is two and a half storeys, with twin gables on the north side, featuring 2- and 3-light stone-mullioned casement windows (some replacements from the 20th century), each with stopped hoods. A 20th-century studded plank door with fillets and strap hinges sits within a segmental-headed surround. A 1½-storey extension from the late 19th to early 20th century has a half dormer window with a stone-mullioned cross window, and a 3-light stone-mullioned window to the ground floor, also with a stopped hood. A two-storey extension from the same period is set to the right, with a flat-chamfered plinth and 3-light stone-mullioned casements with stopped hoods to both the ground and first floors. A single-storey flat-roofed entrance hall has a 20th-century flat-roofed stone canopy supported on brackets, and a stone-mullioned cross window facing south. A band runs above the window and door. A two-storey block at the rear of the original core incorporates 2-light stone-mullioned windows and stone-mullioned cross windows. A further block, set back on the right, is lit by 2- and 3-light stone-mullioned casements. Gable, axial, and lateral stacks have moulded cappings. The roof features slightly stepped and flat gable end coping. The interior of the original core exhibits deeply chamfered beams.
