Description
Eastfield is a mid-19th century building that was remodeled for a cottage hospital shortly after its construction and again in 1892, with further additions made in 1911. The structure stands at 2½ storeys tall and is built of coursed rubble with a Cotswold stone roof. It features a balanced composition of 1-2-1 bays, with the outer bays being the additions from 1892 and 1911. The central part of the building has two storeys plus gables and a central dormer. It is adorned with modillions and medieval-style corbels at the eaves. There are two windows of the moulded mullion and transom type, with moulded surrounds and a platband. Notably, the central window was previously a door. The building has ashlar chimneys, and the end wings are lower, featuring gables with large half-dormers and mullion and transom windows. In the center of the first floor of the main section, there is a reset sundial dated "17 Silas Wells 52," which likely dates from the 1892 remodeling, and it is topped with a carved corbel.
