Description
The barn at Brandhouse Farm is a large structure dating from the early 17th century. It features lean-tos on either side, a three-storey projecting gable on the south side, and a single-storey extension to the east. The barn is constructed of rubble stone with quoins and has a roof made of Cotswold stone slate, along with some areas covered in corrugated iron.
The main barn has a large full-width opening on the west side and consists of six bays. The first three bays have a tie beam only, while the remaining two bays feature collar and tie beam trusses that rest on an interrupted wall plate. Slit ventilation openings on both sides of the barn have been blocked by the adjacent lean-to structures.
At the southeast corner, the tall gabled projection includes a small single light in the gable, a three-light wooden mullion window below, and a blocked entry at the base. The eastern wing has a low wide entrance and a small window on the south side. The north side of the barn has many blocked openings, including a high-level double opening with a stone sill on the lean-to.
