Description
This building is a club, likely originally a public house, built in the late 18th century. It is located on Watermoor Road, Cirencester. The building consists of a main range with a wing attached to the right, which may have been an outbuilding.
The main range and wing are constructed of coursed squared limestone rubble. The front slope of the main range and the wing’s roof are covered with stone slates, while the rear catslide roof of the main range and the wing’s rear slope use concrete tiles. The main range has rendered stacks at each end.
The two-storey main range features a two-window arrangement. The first floor has two 19th-century, two-light timber casement windows with glazing bars, set within plain reveals with stone sills and deep rendered lintels. The ground floor has two similar 20th-century windows in matching reveals. There are two hipped dormers with two-light timber casement windows and glazing bars. A gabled porch, likely from the 19th century, is centrally positioned. It features a 20th-century half-glazed door set within a plain reveal with chamfered jambs. Decorative bargeboards extend below the eaves on either side of the porch, and a simple 19th-century iron railing curves back from each side of the porch to the building's front wall. A 20th-century hanging sign bracket is situated on the first floor to the left.
The single-storey wing to the right has two fixed-pane windows and one 20th-century half-glazed door, alongside one blocked doorway. Flush quoins are present on the right angle of the wing.
The interior of the building was not inspected, but ground floor areas of the main range have been opened out and feature two cross-axial chamfered spine beams with run-out stops.
