Description
The barn at Poultmoor Farm, along with two adjoining former animal shelters, dates from the 1790s or very early 19th century. The barn is constructed of coursed rubble stone and features alternating flush quoins, topped with a stone slate roof that was renewed around 1960. Inside, it has nine bays supported by collar and tie beam trusses, divided by an internal party wall into four bays to the north and five to the south. There are two large projecting cart entries on both sides of the barn, with a lean-to between them; the west side has a hipped roof while the east side has a gabled roof. The original double doors swing 180 degrees on hinges fixed at the top and bottom, and there are slit vents throughout the structure.
The adjoining animal shelter on the northwest end consists of four bays that were originally open, supported by slanted columns on bases between the bays, facing south. The shelter on the southwest end also has four bays, constructed with dressed stone piers and originally open, also facing south. Both shelters are made of coursed rubble stone and have stone slate roofs.
