Description

The Gloucestershire Echo building, located on Black Jack Street in Cirencester, is an office structure dating from the late 18th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. The front is constructed of coursed squared limestone, while the left side and rear wing are made of coursed squared limestone rubble, showing traces of old limewash. The roof is covered with Welsh slate and there is no visible chimney stack.

The building is three stories tall and features a three-window range. On the first floor, there are two 2/2-pane sash windows with plain reveals and stone sills, along with a central opening that is now blocked with boarding. The second floor has three similar 2/2-pane sash windows. The ground floor showcases a late 19th-century shopfront, which includes a seven-pane window divided by timber mullions and a half-glazed door that is recessed in the center. There are panelled pilaster strips on either side, with carved console brackets supporting a frieze that has a blind box above. The building has an ashlar plinth and flush quoins at the left and right angles. A 20th-century hanging sign bracket is located at the center of the first floor.

At the left side of the building, there is an attached gate pier made of limestone ashlar, approximately 2 meters high, topped with weathered ashlar coping. The rear wing features a mix of 19th-century casements and sashes scattered across the left side.
