Description
The Vicarage is a large rectangular house located on the south side of The Square in Blockley. Originally recorded as having "improvements" around 1500, the present structure was largely remodeled in the 17th century and further altered in the mid-19th century. It features a projecting two-storey porch at the center and attics with large gabled dormers. The exterior is constructed of coursed and squared rubble with low-pitched slate roofs, including a coped verge on the left and a hipped break on the right, which dates to the mid-19th century.
The façade has a symmetrical arrangement of windows: two on the left, one in the center, one on the right, and two more on the far right, primarily consisting of pairs of two-light mullion windows with drips and glazing bar casements. There is an angled bay window on the ground floor to the right. The main entrance features an arched doorway with imposts and a chamfered inner doorway. To the left, there is a side door with a Tudor arch head.
The eastern return of the building has two ranges of windows on the right, which are part of the 17th-century section, featuring drips and mullions on the first floor, while the ground floor has inserted glazing bar sashes. The rear of the house has three projecting chimneys, which are partly obscured by the adjacent Church Room. Additionally, there is a Gothic panelled door to the left of the center, which has a modern hood.
