Description
The churchyard walls to the north, south, and west, along with the churchyard gates and gatepiers, are primarily from the early 17th century, commissioned by Sir Baptist Hicks. The gates and railings are likely from the mid-19th century. The walls are made of high-quality ashlar rubble. The north wall is about 5 to 7 feet high, buttressed, and approximately 100 yards long. The south wall stands about 6 to 9 feet tall, featuring weathered coping with a roll, and is also around 100 yards long. It includes a blocked Tudor archway located centrally between Campden House and Hicks Chapel, as well as another blocked opening at the east end with stepped buttresses. The west wall is about 6 feet high and has weathered coping. There is a footpath gate to the northwest and churchyard gates to the southwest. The latter consists of two rusticated ashlar gatepiers topped with ball-capping and a lamp overthrow, along with a pair of cast-iron gates that have a reversed arch top rail and halberd-head railings, which are repeated on the flanking panels of railings with arches between the verticals. There is also a side gate to the right with railings and a dwarf wall that connects to North Lodge.
