Description
The Woodward tomb, located in the south-west angle of the tower and church on Church Street, dates from the early to mid-18th century and is attributed to Edward Woodward, with a date of 1766. It is considered the finest tomb in the churchyard. The tomb is a chest tomb featuring a central panelled block that supports an urn. It has a moulded cornice and a gadroon cornice. The west end panel displays high relief scutcheons, while the sides feature three out of four high relief carvings along with central blank panels. The east panel is dedicated to Mary Cooper, who died in 1833. The Woodward family were notable local builders, and Bedfont House on the High Street is attributed to Thomas Woodward.
