Description
The boundary walls, railings, and gates to the Church of St Stephen were constructed around the 1880s, likely designed by John Middleton.
The materials used include a rough-hewn stone wall with ashlar dressings, along with iron railings and gates. The walls are approximately 0.5 meters high and feature chamfered copings. Stone pillars are placed every 2 meters, with railings in between. The railings consist of two levels: the lower level has spiked dogbars with scroll embellishments, while the upper level features spiked bars with scrolled brackets.
The wall runs approximately 8 meters to the south of St Stephen’s, 30 meters along St Stephen's Road, 45 meters along Princes Road, and 28 meters along Oakfield Street, with a short 2-meter return at the southern end. There are double gates to the west that lead to the south and north porch, a set of gates to the north, and a gate at the end of the eastern section of the wall. The gates have stick bars at the lower part, topped with railings that feature scrolled spikes and ornate brackets above.
