Description

South Yeo is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, possibly with earlier origins, and has a 19th-century addition. The building features plastered stone rubble walls and a gable-ended slate roof. There are brick stacks at either end and a granite ashlar axial stack with a moulded drip course and tapering cap. The layout consists of a three-room plan with a through passage, with the lower end located to the right. The hall stack is positioned against the passage, and there is an unheated rear wing behind the hall, likely added in the late 17th or early 18th century. A 19th-century addition was made at the left end of the house, probably intended for use as a dairy or for another subsidiary purpose.

The exterior is two storeys high with an asymmetrical four-window front. The two left-hand windows on the first floor are early 19th-century hornless 20-pane sashes, while the right-hand windows on both floors are later 20th-century 12-pane sashes. There are later 20th-century two-light small-paned casements on the ground floor to the left. A 19th-century studded plank door leads to the passage, located to the right of center, and is sheltered by a corrugated iron door hood supported by 19th-century carved wooden brackets. The lower addition at the left end features a shuttered unglazed window on the first floor, with a 20th-century two-light casement below and a 19th-century plank door to its right. The rear wing projects from the center of the house, with a 19th-century outshut to its right. The interior was inaccessible at the time of the survey but is likely to contain features of interest, possibly including an early roof structure.
