Description
Leigh Ball Cottages are a pair of cottages built around 1910 for the Bedford Estate, located near the entrance to Endsleigh House. The cottages are constructed from dressed stone rubble with stone dressings at the front and brick at the rear. They feature gabled slate roofs with rendered stacks on the ridge and ornamental slate hanging in the gables.
The design includes two symmetrical adjoining cottages with Picturesque details, likely intended to complement Endsleigh Lodge No.1, which is about 150 meters to the northeast. Each cottage has side entrances with rustic porches supported by timber posts and slate roofs. They also have a chamfered string course, deep eaves with bargeboards, and two gables at the front and sides, with the rear side gable being slightly advanced.
The front and side windows are fitted with cast iron diamond panes, which are a distinctive feature. The cottages are two storeys high, with a symmetrical front that includes two ground floor canted bay windows featuring casements with high transoms in chamfered stone architraves. The first floor has two-light casements also in chamfered stone architraves, and the gables are adorned with ornamental slate hanging. The interior has not been inspected.
