Description
Endsleigh Lodge is a Grade II listed building located at the entrance to Endsleigh House, which was formerly known as Endsleigh Cottage. This lodge was built in the early 19th century for the Duke of Bedford. It is constructed from Hurdwick stone rubble and features a wooden shingle roof that is hipped at both ends, although it was originally thatched. The building has two stone chimney stacks: one on the ridge with a diagonally-set chimney shaft, and another slightly projecting lateral stack with paired diagonally-set shafts.
Designed in a picturesque Cottage orne style to complement Endsleigh House, which was created by Sir Jeffrey Wyatville in 1810, Endsleigh Lodge has an irregular plan and is a small single-storey structure. The front façade is asymmetrical and includes three windows, along with decorative bargeboards. The roof has a small central gable at the front, and to the left, it extends down as a catslide, creating a rustic verandah supported by rough timber posts. Additionally, there is a small outshut on the front to the right.
