Description

The Rowe headstone, dated 1801, is located approximately 2 metres east of the chancel of the Church of St Michael in Spreyton. This headstone commemorates Samuel Rowe and is made of slate. It features an upright slab that stands about 700mm high with a shaped top. The upper part of the front is carved with a charmingly naive depiction of a winged cherub's head, flanked by fleur-de-lys, which reflects the style of its time. The inscription is in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, noting the death of Samuel Rowe in 1801.
