Description
This is a shelter located about 30 meters south west of the Church of St Constantine, built around 1910, likely designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens for the Duke of Bedford. It is constructed from greenstone rubble with dressed greenstone brought to course and features a scantle slate roof that sweeps down to stone corbelled eaves courses. The shelter includes a timber lintel supported by plain stone corbels and a timber seat that rests on single slates laid on edge. It was designed in conjunction with the Lutyens cottages to the west and east of the parish church as part of a project to rebuild the Milton Abbot village center in 1909 and provide housing for employees of the Bedford Estate. The shelter is noted for its group value.
