Description
The drinking fountain and horse trough, located 125 meters southeast of Greystone Bridge on Old Greystone Hill, was built in 1894, as indicated by the datestone. It features snecked dressed stone with granite dressings and has a gabled front. The semi-circular horse trough includes a carved stone lion's head at the water spout. Above the trough, there is a central rectangular recessed plaque with the incised upper case lettering "BK: DRINK AND BE THANKFUL." The datestone is inscribed in the lintel above the plaque. The gable is topped with moulded granite coping. On the left-hand end, there is a drinking fountain with a recessed opening that has a round-headed stone arch. The fountain is situated opposite a toll house that has been converted into a domestic dwelling.
