Description
This is a group of three mason headstones from the late 18th century, located about 7 meters southwest of the tower of the Church of St Constantine in Milton Abbot. The headstones are made of slate.
The southern headstone commemorates William Mason, who was buried in 1779. It features a nowy head with scrolled corners, and a border of mouchettes carved in relief that flanks the inscription and verse, with a pot of flowers carved at the top.
The northern headstone honors Elizabeth Mason, buried in 1765, and Thomas Mason, buried in 1774. It has a guilloche border, a verse below the inscription, and a curved head shaped like a scallop shell, flanked by cherubim.
Back to back with this headstone is another one commemorating Thomas Mason of Higher Longbrook, who died in 1783. This headstone is also nowy-headed and features a winged angel and flowers carved at the top, along with a verse below the inscription.
