Description
The garden retaining wall, located approximately 35 meters north-west of Buckland Abbey, originally formed part of the abbey's grounds. It is likely medieval in origin, although the crenellation may have been added later. The wall is constructed of stone rubble and has an irregular plan, suggesting it may be truncated at both ends. Based on several arches and the probable original layout of the abbey buildings, it is likely that this wall served as the boundary wall for the abbey church and its adjoining structures. The stone arches are placed irregularly, vary in size, and appear to be original. The lean-to rubble buttresses were added in the 20th century.
