Description
West Lopthorne is a farmhouse dating from the early 18th century, with a later addition from the late 18th or 19th century. The building features rendered cob and stone rubble walls, with a gable-ended roof that is thatched on the right side and slated on the left. There is a projecting rendered rubble stack at the right gable end. The layout is somewhat unclear, but it seems to consist of an earlier two-room range on the right and a two-room addition on the left, which has a lean-to built against its front.
The exterior is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical three-window front. The windows include 20th-century three-light casements, with earlier windows on the ground floor to the right. A gabled 20th-century porch is located at the right-hand end of the slated section, featuring a 20th-century glazed door. A lean-to is built against the left-hand side of the front, with a dormer window in the roof above. The interior was inaccessible at the time of the survey.
