Description
Bampfylde House is a house, originally built in the early 19th century and extended in the mid-to-late 19th century. It was formerly the rectory. The house has rendered walls and a hipped slate roof, with gables at the right-hand end of a wing. There are four brick stacks to the front range and wing, and two rendered stacks to the rear wings.
The main range is double-depth, with two rooms and a central stairhall. Service wings extend to the rear of the main range, and a Victorian addition projects from the right-hand end.
The original front facade, on the left, is symmetrical with three windows. It features 16-pane and 12-pane sash windows on the first floor; a sash window with missing glazing bars on the ground floor to the left; and a large Victorian bay window to the right. An original trellis porch is centrally located, with a round-arched doorway behind it, featuring panelled reveals and a six-panel door (now partially glazed). The Victorian wing to the right has a large two-storey bay window, and its gable end is hung with fishscale tiles.
The rear of the house includes wings to the left and right, with a small hipped roof over the original stair window, which has 16 panes. Single-story extensions are situated in front of each wing, and a connecting wall creates a rear courtyard.
The interior was inaccessible at the time of the survey, but it is likely to retain early 19th-century joinery.
