Description

The building is a cellar located approximately 1.5 metres north-west of Way Barton, dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of local stone rubble with sections of plastered cob, and features a roof that is partly slate and partly corrugated iron, though it was originally thatched. The cellar has a three-room plan and faces south-east towards Way Barton. The left end cell is open to the roof, while the other two rooms are floored over. The ceilings and walls are plastered, indicating that it was originally built as a service block for the main farmhouse. It was later likely used as a cider house and cellar, and there is evidence of a former external flight of stone steps leading to the loft.

On the exterior, the ground floor has three doorways, and the first floor features a loft loading hatch above a patch of blocking from the removal of the external staircase. All doorways have plain 19th-century plank doors, except for a central first-floor window, which is an unglazed slit window with an oak frame. The roof is hipped. Inside, the centre and right rooms have neatly chamfered beams, suggesting that these rooms were originally used for purposes beyond mere agricultural or service use. The original roof consists of A-frame trusses with pegged lap-jointed collars. Additionally, the secondary privy includes a 19th-century two-seater oak seat.
