Description

Nos. 2 to 11, Pitt Hill, Appledore are a range of probably 18th-century cottages, altered subsequently and stepped uphill towards the end. The frontages are largely re-plastered, with two having new brickwork at first floor level. They have slate roofs and generally feature sash windows with exposed frames. No. 2 has a recessed 6-panel door and adjoins No. 1 Pitt Court. The entrances are plain, some incorporating fanlights. No. 2 has two windows on each floor. No. 4 has a gabled dormer, while Nos. 5 and 6 have mullion transom casements and two gabled dormers. No. 7 has a gabled dormer, and No. 8 has two small sash dormers. Nos. 5 and 6 have cast iron ornamental railings above a low wall enclosing small forecourts. A first-floor band runs across Nos. 6 to 9, and a fairly low wall defines the small front gardens of Nos. 7 to 11. Nos. 10 and 11 share a coupled entrance. A very small, empty, and disused cottage adjoins No. 11.

Nos. 2 to 11, together with No. 1 Pitt Court, form a group.
