Description

Littlecroft is a cottage dating from the late 17th century. It features rendered cob walls and a hipped thatched roof, with a rendered rubble projecting lateral stack at the rear. The cottage has a two-room plan, with a larger room on the left that is heated by the rear lateral stack and includes newel stairs next to the fireplace. The smaller room on the right is unheated, and there is a central passage that may be original. The right-hand room has been divided into two longitudinally.

The building is two storeys high and has a nearly regular three-window facade, featuring early 20th-century two-light casements with leaded panes. The ground floor left-hand window, which serves the larger room, is a three-light window. A 19th-century plank door is located to the right of centre, beneath a 20th-century thatched porch hood supported by timber posts at the front. At the rear, next to the projecting stack, there is a staircase projection to its left.

The interior of Littlecroft remains largely unspoilt, showcasing several original features. The left-hand heated room has a close-studded partition, and the door to this room consists of two fielded panels. There are insubstantial closely spaced beams with beaded edges, along with several original plank doors featuring strap hinges on the first floor, and two similar close-studded partitions. Although the roof space has not been inspected, the high ceiling on the first floor, which lacks projecting trusses, suggests fairly insubstantial straight principals. This cottage is an unusually well-preserved example of its period.
