Description
Bridford Bridge is a road bridge over the River Teign, likely built in the 16th century. It features two spans on the downstream side with pointed arches that have recessed arch rings and cutwaters, while the upstream side has a single segmental arch and three rounded flood arches. The bridge was widened on the upstream side in the 19th century, and the granite rubble parapets with granite capping are also likely from this period. Described by Henderson and Jervoise as the "most interesting bridge over the River Teign," it was noted by Leland and recorded as being in decay in 1678. In the early 19th century, the bridge was 9 and a half feet wide, and its current width is 13 and a half feet.
