Description

The Sowdon chest tomb, located about 5 meters east of the transept of the Church of St Catherine of Alexandria, is a late 17th-century chest tomb. It is made of breccia stone and features a grey limestone lid that is chamfered. The lid bears an inscription commemorating Henry Sowdon, who died in 1679, along with a two-line verse below the first inscription. This tomb is notable for its early design and the interesting combination of stones used in its construction.
