Description
Home Farmhouse is a stone farmhouse dating to 1876, as indicated by a datestone, and believed to have been constructed after the planned farmyard it serves. The exterior is of stone rubble with brick dressings, and has a 3-span slate roof with gable ends, half-hipped at the front centre. Axial and end stacks feature brick shafts. The plan consists of a double-depth farmhouse, approximately square, with two rooms wide. There are entrances in a stair hall on the west side and centrally on the north side, facing the farmyard. The west front has a symmetrical three-bay design, with gables to the left and right, and a centrally located, separately roofed block with a lower roofline and a half-hipped front. A central gabled porch has a two-centred arched outer doorway. Original window embrasures have been reglazed with aluminium framed windows. The left return has a similar porch and three bays; two windows have been reglazed, but three retain their high-transomed timber casements with glazing bars. The right return is similar to the left, without a porch. The interior has not been inspected, but likely retains contemporary joinery. Despite the replacement windows, the house is important for its group value alongside the nearby planned farmyard to the northwest, Haccombe Church, and Haccombe House to the south.
