Description
Blatchford Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is constructed of roughcast cob and features a wheat reed thatch roof with hipped ends. The building has a three-room lobby entrance plan and includes a stone rubble lateral stack at the rear, which heats the hall, and a left-hand end stack. The farmhouse is two storeys high with an attic and has a four-window range. The 19th-century windows are two-light casements with glazing bars, while the ground floor centre hall window retains its original three-light casement with small leaded panes and stanchion bars flanking a single sheet opening light. To the right of centre is a boarded door, which is sheltered by a roughcast porch with a slate hipped roof. A central dormer in the thatch features a later two-light casement with glazing bars. There is a large stone raking buttress on the left-hand (north-east) end, and a later stone rubble single-storey outshut at the rear. The interior of the farmhouse is remarkably unaltered, retaining stone flag floors and plank doors with wrought iron hinges. The stairs are located opposite the entrance, between the hall and an unheated parlour. The original roof structure is intact, with plain chamfered principals visible in the attic, which also has its original plaster floor.
