Description
This is a pair of chest tombs with iron railings, located north of the vestry of the Church of St John the Baptist in Bishopsteignton. They date from the early 19th century and are made of freestone.
The western chest features a coped lid, although the inscription is illegible. It is surrounded by ornate railings topped with bud finials and has decorative corner standards with larger finials. The northern chest is pilastered and commemorates Sarah Quinton, the wife of Rear Admiral Quinton, who died in 1837. This chest is enclosed by iron railings with diamond finials and columnar corner standards, although one urn finial is missing.
