Description

This is a late 16th or 17th century cottage, now situated centrally within an L-shaped group that includes Privet Cottage and Pump Cottage (which are not part of this listing). The cottage has solid, roughcast walls, likely constructed of cob. It is topped by a thatched roof. A large stone rubble chimney stack, slightly tapered and capped, rises from the rear (northwest) wall, featuring weatherings. The cottage is two storeys high and has a single-window front facing southeast. A 20th-century door and porch are located on the right side. Most of the windows are 20th-century wood casements with glazing bars, although a 20th-century bay window is situated to the left of the door. The interior has not been inspected, but a 20th-century tiled fireplace appears to correspond to the original external stack. It is likely that the cottage incorporates a large open fireplace and other original features that may be hidden beneath plaster. The three cottages were known as Little Burne Cottages in the early 19th century, as evidenced by title deeds of Manor House, Love Lane.
