Description
This chest tomb, located 3 metres south-east of the south aisle of the Church of St Thomas, dates back to 1678. It is made of granite, with the chest carved from a single piece of stone, excluding the capstone. The heavy moulded capstone features carvings on the north, east, and south sides. Although the inscription on the top slab is difficult to read, the centre panel clearly displays the date 1678. The north side features two primitive carvings of angels with outstretched wings, set within a scrolled framework. On the south side, there are two mythical beasts, likely a lion and a unicorn, set in a more elaborately scrolled framework. The east side displays a stylized tree topped with a crown.
