Description

This chest tomb, headstone, and railings date from the mid-19th century and are located against the south wall of the churchyard, about 21 metres southeast of the Church of St John the Baptist in Bishopsteignton. The chest tomb is made of freestone and features a coped lid with a roll-moulded cross carved in relief. To the west of the chest tomb is a headstone that has a cross-shaped top and bears an inscription commemorating Ellen Mary Pickering, who died in 1853. The railings surrounding the tomb have fleur de lis finials and columnar corner standards topped with urn finials.
