Description

Lower Warcombe Farmhouse is a farmhouse that may date back to the 17th century, with 19th century windows. The building is constructed of rubble with some coursed stone and features a slate roof. It likely has a lobby-entry layout, with a porch opposite a large ridge stack and a deep projecting stair turret located just to the left of the stack. The lower back corner has an added outshut beneath a long, swept-down roof.

The front of the farmhouse, which faces away from the road, is two storeys high and includes a gabled porch with a wide plank stable door beneath a 1½-light glazing bar casement. Inside the porch, there is an inner plank door and a deep small recess on the left side. To the right of the porch, there is a 2-light horizontal bar casement and a blocked opening, with a stone drip above the right opening. The first floor features a 2-light window. On the left side of the porch, there is a 24-pane casement below a 2-light horizontal bar window.

The north gable has a 2-light 24-pane casement with a floating drip course, and to the left in the outshut, there is a 2-light opening with gauze fill; a small 2-light glazing bar window is located at the first floor. The swept-down section has a rounded outer corner, and the building is set directly on rock at the north-west corner. The back of the farmhouse features an offset stair turret with a small 2-light casement and a low 4-pane fixed light towards the left end. At the eaves, there is a small square brick stack. The central stack is very large, with a characteristic truncated pyramidal capping and weathering stone that suggests it may have originally been thatched. The south gable is plain. The interior has not been inspected, but it may be of interest as the exterior remains largely unaltered from the 20th century.
