Description
This barn, located approximately 45 metres southwest of Old Puslinch Farmhouse, dates from the 16th to 17th century. It is constructed of stone rubble and features a bitumenised slate hipped roof. Originally designed as a two-storey structure, most of the upper floor has been removed. The west side of the ground floor has small segmental arched openings, with a loft door situated above. At the north end, there is a wide ground floor doorway that has a wooden lintel with a stopped chamfer. The east side includes external stone stairs leading to the loft door, which is covered by a slated hood, along with ventilation slits—two at ground floor level, one with a round arched head and the other cut through a single stone with a pointed head. There is also a barn doorway at the south end, positioned at a higher ground level. The roof trusses were added in the 20th century. Although sometimes referred to as "the chapel," this former use is not substantiated. It is believed to be located on the site of a chapel that was licensed in 1405 and dedicated to St Toby.
